Department of Georgia
State Officer
Department Service Officer
Brett Colbert
Brett Colbert served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1994-1998. He specialized in Embarkation and Logistics and reached the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in both Okinawa, Japan with Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division G-4, and then with 7 th Motor Transport Battalion, 1st FSSG at Camp Pendleton, CA.
A long-time resident of Athens, GA, Brett returned to Athens following the Marine Corps. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia and later graduated in 2000. Prior to that, he married the love of his life, Hollye, whom he met in California; they have been together ever since. Though they have no children, they have huge hearts when it comes to their many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and strays.
Brett has been involved with AMVETS Post 10 in Athens, GA since 1998. He has been the Post’s Finance Officer since 2018—and currently serves as the Post’s Service Officer as well. Brett became a life member in 2020 and recommitted to the causes AMVETS supports.
To this day, Brett proudly stands alongside his fellow veterans and is very adamant that they obtain
what is rightfully theirs. He truly is honored to hold the position of the Department of Georgia’s Service Officer and is extremely humbled by the faith and confidence his peers have in him to do the job.
Brett enjoys his free time with family and friends, traveling, music, and anything historical—or nerdy.
